AGM 2019 Write up

The PHCA Annual General Meeting is always an interesting affair, with the 2018-19 AGM living up to this billing.  We started off with drinks and nibbles and caught up with old and new friends.  This, of course, was followed by the more serious matter of Chair and Treasurer’s reports for Primrose Hill Community Centre and Primrose Hill Community Library and the election of trustees.

This year was special because we got to thank the outgoing Chair, Maureen Betts, for 13 years sterling service, who was handed a bouquet of flowers and a bottle of champagne, to thunderous applause from the audience. Amanda Dickins was welcomed as the new Chair of the PHCA.

Following the legalities, Andrew O’Hagan, novelist, non-fiction author, editor at large of London Review of Books and Esquire magazine, spoke to us about his childhood growing up in Scotland, where the library became his second home, and about the cafe culture there.  This clearly had a big influence on him as he went into partnership to bring us Sam’s cafe, soon to find it’s new home in the L’Absinthe building.  It was interesting hearing his plans for this and we look forward to seeing the results shortly after Christmas.

We then moved on to the On The Hill celebration, it is hard to believe that it has been with us for 5 years.  It was celebrated with a huge cake donated by Primrose Bakery, and editor Maggie Chambers and her team of volunteers were thanked for doing fantastic work.  We look forward to celebrating the 10th anniversary!
