Local Press – past, present and future

Dan Carrier has worked at the iconic Camden New Journal for four decades. The CNJ remains a campaigning paper locally and is one of a handful independent regional newspapers left in the UK.

It repeatedly wins awards for its work, and remains a crucial voice in our communities.

In this illustrated talk, Dan considers the history of our local press in North London  – including a delve into the Primrose Hill archives –  and discusses how the many titles reflected the readerships and communities they served, why they matter now and what the future may hold.How relevant is a local newspaper in these times when social media dominates? What can your local newspaper do to fight misinformation and protect democracy?
