Neighbourhood Nosh Assistant Cooks & Helpers

Purpose: to assist the Lead Cook and others in the preparation, packing up and distribution of plant-based meals for 50 to 100 people once a week from donated food.

Duties: varied – for example:

  • prepping & chopping vegetables for soup
  • potting up soup and desserts
  • helping to keep the kitchen clean to comply with Health & Safety
  • packing food bags
  • delivering food to local housebound clients

Times: Cooking is mostly on a Wednesday: morning (3-4 hours), lunchtime (2-3 hours) or afternoon (1-2 hours),
With some prepping on Tuesday afternoons (2-3 hours)
also Thursday morning greeting and delivery (1-2 hours)
and will vary, and is dependent on role and assigned task – all on a rota

Skills/attributes include:

  • living locally
  • previous experience with cooking
  • ability to learn quickly and be part of a team
  • attention to kitchen hygiene and willingness to clean up
  • ability to stand and move around a busy kitchen
  • willingness to do online level one or two hygiene training if necessary
