A rapt crowd of almost 90 people listened to artists Paul Huxley and Michael Craig Martin at Primrose Hill Community Centre talk of their younger selves and their work at the event, Artists & Their Studios in Primrose Hill from the 60s to the 80s.
Primrose Hill has always been a centre for artists especially from the 1960s onwards. There were quite a few semi-industrial sites that became artists’ studios, such as a former plasterers’ depot in Fitzroy Road, with the purpose built nineteenth-century Primrose Hill Studios housing many artists.
A slide show revealed other artists’ studios in London as well as these, with the mid-twentieth century black-and-white photos providing an appealing and atmospheric backdrop to the conversation.
