Direct Investments
There are now some online platforms for people to make direct investments in ethical shares or funds, here are a couple:
- www.ethex.org.uk – A not- for-profit centre for investment in to things such as green energy projects. Warning that small companies can be vulnerable, and shares may not be easily sold if you want to get your money back
- https://bigexchange.com – A new platform partly backed by the social enterprise The Big Issue, which offers investments in sustainable funds. They offer Junior Individual investment accounts for children.
(When you invest in a fund, your and other investors’ money is pooled together. A fund manager then buys, holds and sells investments on your behalf, charging you a percentage)
