Primrose Hill New Mural

By Maureen Betts (who had painted the bridge previously for the Primrose Hill Community Association).

Some people have asked us about the new mural on the bridge to Primrose Hill.

We were aware of plans to repaint both sides of the bridge. The Marketing Dept of St George the developers of the Morrison Site met with Mick and I a couple of months ago offering to organise the “upgrading/improving the environment in the area by looking at overpainting the bridge on both sides”. They asked us for permission. As we do not own the bridge we just said they needed Network Rail and Camden Council permission. We also consulted with the Primrose Hill Conservation Area Advisory Committee.

We then had notice from Camden Council telling us they had agreed for the bridge murals to be painted over and that people from the Mural Society who were celebrating London Mural Month in October were going to do the repainting employing Mr Doodle.

Both sides of the bridge were in a poor state with rust coming through and dripping down and also posters that were glued to both sides of the bridge had started to spoil the paintings.

We painted one side of the bridge in 2007 so it has had a good innings and so I feel it is just an end of an era and hope Mr Doodle‘s work is touched up/repaired once it is graffitied.
